How blessed are some people, whose lives have no fears, no dreads; to whom sleep is a blessing that comes nightly, and brings nothing but sweet dreams."

Though the seating position wasn’t ideal, Kai wasn’t all that perturbed by it. After only a few moments, be became used to the feeling; the roughness of the bark scraping against his back lessening as he found a slight dip in the tree trunk. He was one that seemed to adapt to situations fairly well; something he had noticed the first day he had gone with his father to one of the many meetings that would soon follow. He found himself lost in thought while pondering this over, quickly shaking his head when the male— whom he had briefly forgotten— spoke up. “Huh— Oh. I had a day off so thought, why not? It was sittin’ there on one of the shelves and it’s good to act like a kid every now and then, right?” There was a slight edge in the words he spoke, though it wasn’t directed at anything in particular. Kai often found himself spitting out words in a manner he hadn’t meant, and it made him wonder if perhaps it was a simple reaction that had been programmed into him at one point. Francesco’s musings caught him off guard; the change in topic a rather…strange one, but he wasn’t in the position to judge. “You should look it up if you ever get the chance,” was the only reply he could give in regards to the former. As for the latter, he grew physically uncomfortable by such a question, shifting around until his body was nearly turned away from the other. “Couldn’t really say if I did or not. Doesn’t seem like it would’ve been one of my things but…” He fell silent when the male continued on with his own story, stifling a laugh at the image that presented itself in his mind. He wasn’t sure if he had ever seen anyone attempt to feed squirrels— then again, that wasn’t something he could ask himself. The grin of the male was so obvious in his query, Kai didn’t feel the need to turn back around to see for himself. Instead he simply chuckled before replying with, “Okay, maybe not anything. But you get my point.”

There was certainly something curious about the young man in his vicinity. He seemed a minefield, or a game he had not yet learned to play. Things which he said seemed to be taken in different ways from what he might have thought they would, and it had him observing Kai with curious eyes more than once. Including when the other seemed for a moment lost in his own world of thoughts, returning with a clumsy start of a sentence before finding his tongue. It made raise his eyebrows faintly, registering that stinging nuance which laced the young man’s utterance. He did not know whether it had been intended or not, but nor did he seem to put much weight into it, as he pulled himself up. Pale hands gripping onto the branch from which he hung, and not long afterwards he let himself fall down onto his own two feet, brushing his hands off against one another, before running one through his mess of black hair. Past, he ticked off in his head as a sensitive topic for the young man before him, as his reaction to his question of childhood raised clear defenses, not only in the tone of his voice but in the shift of his body, while Francesco lowered himself down sitting on the ground in a seamless movement, flicking his hair out of his eyes after it had settled. That endlessly curious nature of his made him wonder what was with Kai, but while he could be a fool, he had learned long ago there was an end to what should be foolishly allowed. At least for someone he had only just met. “… Then, what would you do for ramen?” he queried instead, a tug of a grin hinting at the corners of his lips as he kept his eyes steadily on the other man. “Or a really good steak.”
